The “Paris Perineum and Incontinence Institute” (Institut Parisien du Périnée & de l’Incontinence, IPPI) is an association of healthcare professionals whose primary objective is to provide multidisciplinary care for pelvic floor disorders and women’s health and quality of life.
The secondary objectives of the IPPI are medical training and promoting clinical research.
Pelvic floor disorders affect close to 30% of women. The primary conditions are: urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, genitourinary prolapse, pain and pelvic-perineal consequences of childbirth.
The Ambroise Paré, Pierre Cherest and Hartmann Clinics provide comprehensive care for women’s pelvic-perineal disorders. Specialized consultations allow the determination of diagnostic hypotheses. Additional explorations provide further guidance and enable a therapeutic plan to be developed:
- Urodynamic assessment and anorectal manometry
- Dynamic pelvic MRI and defecography MRI
- Three dimensional (3D) pelvic and perineal ultrasound
Treatment of female pelvic floor disorders includes hygiene- and diet-based measures, perineal and bladder reeducation, medical treatments and reconstructive surgery.
Dr. Georges BADER, gynecologic surgeon at the HARTMANN Clinic, is the founder of the Paris Perineum and Incontinence Institute (Institut Parisien du Périnée & de l’Incontinence, IPPI). The specialties represented at the IPPI include:
- Gynecologic and urological surgery
- Coloproctology and colorectal surgery
- Imaging (dynamic MRI and 3D pelvic-perineal ultrasound)
- Urodynamic and anorectal assessment
- Perineal reeducation (physical therapists and midwives)
- Nutrition
- Pelvic-perineal multidisciplinary team meetings (MTMs) take place twice a month. More complex clinical cases are discussed at the MTMs, and an expert opinion is rendered.
The pelvic-perineal MTM is open to all local physicians, who are welcome to submit and discuss their cases.
